(Nashville, Tenn.) February 20, 2009 – Veteran rock band Third Day garnered three GMA Dove Award Nominations this morning as nominees were announced at a press conference in Nashville, Tenn. Third Day received recognition in the coveted Artist of the Year and Group of the Year categories, and in the Pop/Contemporary Album of the Year, for its successful Revelation project.

Revelation debuted at No. 6 on The Billboard Top 200 chart in July, landing the band on the cover of Billboard magazine and a performance on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.”

In addition, Mac Powell, Third Day’s lead vocalist, received a nomination for his high-energy performance of, “I’ll Fly Away,” with The Charlie Daniels Band on How Great Thou Art: Gospel Favorites from the Grand Ole Opry, nominated in the Special Event Album category. The band’s Revelation project also was nominated in the Recorded Music Packaging category.

For the first time, fans have an opportunity to vote for the winner of Artist of the Year along with New Artist of the Year. Fan voting, which will be conducted through the Gospel Music Channel website (www.gospelmusicchannel.com) and at www.doveawards.com, will open on Feb. 26, the same day online voting opens for GMA members. The cumulative fan vote, which will continue through the live Dove Awards broadcast, will account for one-third of the total vote in those two categories.

Dove Awards will be handed out Thursday, April 23rd at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, TN and broadcast live nationwide on Gospel Music Channel.

A long-time proponent of allowing fans glimpses into their lives and passions, both on and off the stage, Third Day let the cameras and tape recorders roll freely on several dates of its recent tour, yielding a “must-have” piece for Third Day fans: Live Revelations: On Stage, Off Stage, Backstage, which releases on April 7.
